Is Converting Your Garage Worth It?

It has long been my belief that a garage is for cars. But recently, I was asked by another local publication to provide my thoughts about the advantages and obstacles of converting a garage into useable, livable space.
Given that the needs of, and the relationship with, a home dramatically changed during the pandemic, I have not slammed the door on the idea of garage conversion. Or, in this case, lowered the door on the idea.
As a local home improvement professional, I have always advocated the idea that return on enjoyment (ROE) should exceed the number driven measurement of return on investment (ROI). Homeownership is an emotional investment as much as a financial one, and that emotion was never more evident when the home became an office, family gathering place, neighborhood conduit and safe space during the pandemic.
